King Jesus Christ

The King Of The World

Chapel time was fast approaching, as the students march towards their respective seats. The question on everyone’s mind is, “Will this be another dry service we have to suffer through?” The student body consists of many future ministers, missionaries, professors, teachers, and musicians. All the professors and university staff members are in attendance, as the chapel is mandatory for all. The speaker, for this chapel, is a guest. He starts his sermon by asking us a question.

What is the good confession?

It seems, almost all those in attendance, smugly smile with the answer in their head. I was one of them too. We are all thinking about Peter’s confession to Jesus, in our minds, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16 NKJV

The speaker looks at us and requests, “Whoever thinks the confession of Peter is the good confession, raise your hands.” It seems everyone raises their hands. Then he asks, “Is there anyone who has a different confession in their hearts? Raise your hand.” Only, one went up, the hand of the President of the University. The smug students think he is wrong. The speaker tells us to open our Bibles to 1Timothy 3:16. The noise of Bibles, opening and page turning is loud. He reads the verse to us.

I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate” NKJV

The obvious question is now, “What is the good confession of Christ Jesus before Pilate?” For us to learn this answer, we must enter the chamber of Pilate, where he questions Jesus. The Jewish leaders hand Jesus over to Pilate for an execution judgement. These people want Jesus dead, buried and gone, from the face of the earth. Pilate is the one who can do this. The Pharisees and Sadducees are angry with Jesus proclaiming, “He is the Son of God!”  They know the consequences of this. They reason, if Jesus is the Son of God, He is our KING! They reject this with vengeful venomous hate. Just as their forefathers spurned God as their king.

“But the people refused to listen to Samuel (Concerning keeping God as King). ‘No!’ they said.’We want a (human) king over us.’” 1Samuel 8:19 NIV

The Jewish mob will soon shout at Pilate who began to question them.

Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews. But they shouted, ‘Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!’ ‘Shall I crucify your king?’ Pilate asked. ‘We have no king but Caesar,’ the chief priests answered. Finally, Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. John 19:14-16 NIV

Let us go back to Pilate’s chamber and his questioning of Jesus, to learn how Pilate concluded; Jesus is the King of the Jews. It is here we learn Christ’s good confession.

Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews? ‘Is that your own idea,’ Jesus asked, ‘or did others talk to you about me?’ ‘Am I a Jew?’ Pilate replied. ‘Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?’ Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.‘YOU ARE A KING, THEN!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’” John 18:33-37 NIV, NKJV

Jesus’ good confession before Pilate, is clearly understood by Pilate! He unequivocally believes Jesus is a KING. This is the witness of Christ before Pilate. Truly, Jesus confesses the truth about Himself, He is a KING!

The quiet of the student body is evident, as all ears are opened to the truth of the good confession of Christ! Jesus is our king. Nevertheless, what are we to do with the confession of Peter?

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”                Matthew 16:16 NASB

Obviously, this is a good confession for all to make. The good confession of Peter is the precursor for salvation. In order to be right with God and gain His salvation, we must believe in the words Peter confesses to Jesus. Jesus didn’t deny to Peter; He is the Christ the Son of God. He also will not deny you if you confess this too. You want to be saved; you need to confess Peter’s confession. This is the good confession of salvation.

The good confession of Jesus before Pilate is for the saved. Jesus did not deny Pilate’s claim, “You are a King!” If you are saved, He will not deny this confession before you. He is our KING! The proof of this is in the fact only the saved can say this. This fact comes from the Holy Spirit.

“Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.1Corinthians 12:3 NKJV

Peter’s confession is the revelation of Christ as the Savior for the unsaved. Jesus’s confession is the revelation of Kingdom Authority for the saved. The saved have been moved from the world system to God’s kingdom. Jesus is the King of Kings in the Kingdom of God. He is ruler and boss. He expects the saved to live under this authority. Jesus commands the saved to advance His kingdom on this earth.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” Amen. Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

Christian, who is your King? Unbeliever, who can save you?

ALL HAIL KING JESUS! TO WHOM BE GLORY AND HONOR AND POWER NOW AND FOREVER! AMEN!
