Aspects

God Has a Plan For All Our Problems

“Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth.”

Isaiah 40:4, seems to be a verse describing two aspects related to life. The first aspect teaches about the valley of depression we fall into, the non-climbable mountain we face, the hills of obstacles in our paths, the crookedness of our sinful behavior, and all the rough situations we live through. The second aspect teaches about the wonderful promises of God to correct all our aspects of life. When we are in the valley of despair, He promises to lift us up. When unmovable mountains and pesky hills get in our way, He promises to remove them for us. When sin causes our ways to become crooked, He promises to straighten us out. When life becomes rough, He promises to smooth it over. Yes, God promises to do all this, to prepare the way of the Lord and reveal His glory to all flesh.

These promises are also applicable for us! How else can God reveal Himself to lost people, but by actively solving our problems, miraculously!  There is a fact we need to get used to.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.”
Isaiah 55:8 NKJV

Abraham and Sarah had to learn this lesson. This wonderful couple were in a depressed state. They could not overcome the mountain of Sarah’s barrenness. Abraham complains about this problem to God. God hears him and drops a promise on Him. God promises Abraham he will have a child. Abraham believes God. He goes running home to Sarah and tells her, “We are going to have a child!” As the story goes, year after year passes, and they do not conceive. In the march of time, Abraham and Sarah lost sight of God’s promise. Perhaps we can say, their faith was waning. They began to live by sight and not by faith. In their sight, they decided to fulfill God’s promise through their own ingenuity. Sarah gives Hagar to Abraham. Abraham takes Hagar. The result, they think God’s promise was fulfilled; Ishmael was born to the eighty-six-year-old Abraham. When Abraham was ninety-nine years old, God begins to straighten the crooked way Abraham and Sarah conceived.  He explains to the aged Abraham how He will work His promise to allow the barren and old Sarah to conceive. The hard lesson Abraham had to learn is, God must keep and work out His promise His way. Furthermore, he must believe, trust and obey God to the fulfillment of His promise.

 “And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken.” Genesis 21:1 NKJV

As God works out His promises for Abraham and Sarah, He will so do for us! Trust God in all aspects of life.
