Why Does God Allow Evil?
Genesis 2:15-17, NKJV
“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
I bet you; many of us hear these words, muttered by the enemies of God and even by Christians, when disasters or evils occur, “Why does God allow bad things to happen, such as tragedy, suffering or evil?“
On the surface, this question seems reasonable, below the surface this question is evil. Notice, the tenor of the question, “Why does God allow evil and disasters to happen?” The question is putting the blame on God for all the evil and natural disasters occurring on the face of the earth. God is innocent in all the disasters, man-made or natural, occurring on earth, He is not to be blamed! Now, let us think this through logically, “Why does God allow bad things to happen?” The only correct response to this is, God, in allowing terrible things to happen, is doing us a favor! I know you are thinking, “What a non-sensible statement for anyone to make, ‘God is doing me a favor by allowing bad things to happen!’” I agree with you; it does sound absurd. However, do you know what God only owes every human being? Before we answer this question with silly ideas, consider what God said to Adam,
“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:17
In reading this verse very carefully, we learn God owes human beings one thing, DEATH! That is correct, you read accurately, God only owes you and me death. Therefore, God, in allowing bad things to happen, is allowing human beings to exist, otherwise we would not be here today. Gods’ grace is allowing evil to exist, which permits humans to exist, which enables His grace to save us from death, through His Son, Jesus Christ. When bad things happen in this life, remember what Adam did, and what God did not do! He is doing you and me a favor, to find everlasting life in Christ.
We are approaching Easter, God’s remedy for the evil of sin. If you never examined this remedy, do so today. Please, accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. Get right with God, be humble and invite Christ into your heart.
